April 1, 2020 | Free vaccine against pneumonia

Updated: May 12, 2022

Should people living with HIV be vaccinated against pneumonia?

If you are older and/or also have other diagnoses, this may be a good idea.

- The vaccine will not have an effect on the body's resistance to coronavirus, but it can prevent you from getting bacterial pneumonia on top of that, explains the department doctor at the Statens Serum Institut Lasse Vestergaard to TV2 Øst in a response to one of the TV station's users.

There is no evidence that HIV-positive people in treatment are at greater risk of becoming infected with corona than others. But the elderly and people who have other diagnoses at the same time may be more vulnerable.

If you are particularly vulnerable, you can get a free vaccine - you can read more about this by clicking on the Danish Health and Medicines Authority's website
